ESPON 2020 Database Portal – Phase II
Project description
“The ESPON 2020 Programme aims at promoting and fostering a European territorial dimension in development and cooperation by providing evidence, knowledge transfer and policy learning to public authorities and other policy actors at all levels.” (https://www.espon.eu/programme/espon/espon-2020-cooperation-programme)
The ESPON Database is a key activity of the ESPON Programme in terms of supporting:
- the provision of core data and data-related support to the ESPON projects,
- the harmonisation and quality control of the main data outcomes from the ESPON projects,
- the facilitation of the searching and finding of ESPON data and data-related products,
- the dissemination of main ESPON results in an attractive way,
- any task related to data, spatial data and data-related products.
The ESPON 2020 Database Portal – Phase I (2017-2020) had put a major effort on the Database design and implementation, the development of various web services, data integration and updates. Phase II builds on this work to integrate and update additional data, to maintain the system as well as to improve the existing functionalities and create new ones based on users’ feedbacks.
The main objectives of the ESPON 2020 Database Portal – Phase II are as follows:
- To maintain and improve the system and its functionalities by:
- Testing the current usability (user experience) and functionalities.
- Based on the testing, as well as on the own assessment and user’s requests, applying fixes and implementing new functionalities.
- Providing system administrator and technical support.
- To increase high quality Database content by:
- Integrating new metadata and data from up to 20 ESPON projects.
- Restructuring and updating (including gap filling) the set of Base indicators.
ESPON 2020 Database Portal – Phase II improves the efficiency of the system in terms of data content, functionality and user experience for the ESPON community and the general public.
