MapX reaches a major milestone: 500 people trained and 5,000 users worldwide

Date: Oct. 16 2025

After 10 years of development and collaboration, MapX has reached an exciting milestone: over 500 people trained through universities, partner institutions, and environmental projects across the globe, from the University of Geneva to the Université Amadou Mahtar Mbow of Dakar. Together, they form a growing community committed to transparent, participatory, and data-informed environmental decision-making.

Today, MapX counts around 5,000 registered users, supporting work in key environmental domains such as biodiversity conservation, climate change, water and land management, pollution monitoring, ecosystems protection, plastic pollution, extractive industries and disaster risk reduction.

Developed by GRID-Geneva, MapX helps make geospatial data accessible, open, and collaborative, empowering countries and institutions to act for a more sustainable future.
