Project description

As part of the PROMAR project (funded by the German Ministry of Environment (BMUV)) dedicated to the prevention of marine litter from entering the Caribbean Sea, UNEP's Cartagena Convention Secretariat (CCS) seeks to develop a regional monitoring network and information system on marine litter / plastic pollution in the Caribbean Sea. The primary focus is on St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, and British Virgin Islands. A secondary focus includes Colombia, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. A tertiary focus would include the wider region, i.e., all parties to the Cartagena Convention. In that frame, GRID-Geneva will develop an online, open-source platform facilitating the publication of relevant documents, resources, events, news and data (both geospatial and statistical).
