Project description

Among the various environmental topics, mountains can be considered as a specific topic of importance because of their particularities linked to elevation and topography that gives shape to particular ecosystems. Mountain ecosystems are especially vulnerable to climate change and its impacts, and should therefore be studied and monitored through specific geospatial data and relevant indicators. This not only concerns physical indicators but also socio-economic ones for achieving sustainable mountain development.

A specific mountain topic is then being developed as part of the World Environment Situation Room, in order to take into account mountain specificities in sustainable development.

The aim of WESR-mountain is to provide all the necessary discoverability and accessibility to existing mountain specific geospatial layers, information and knowledge for better addressing sustainable mountain development issues.

Several datasets are currently being prepared and control-checked.
