Boreal forest of Lappi (Finland)

Description

Eighty six percent of Finland’s land surface is forested, the most extensive forest cover in Europe. The country is also one of the world leaders in paper production. Paper is made from wood fibre. Exploitation of the forests, particularly intensive in certain regions, fragments the forest habitat as can be seen from this pair of images of a region in the northeast of the country. The fauna has paid the cost.
