Ataturk Dam (Turkey)

Description

Built in 1990, the Ataturk Dam on the Euphrates River delivers irrigation water and electricity to a region which was formerly arid and under-developed. The dam has literally transformed the landscape. Fields have appeared around the artificial lake but also, and in spectacular fashion, around the town of Harran which could never have hoped for such development without the dam.
