Description

At the beginning of the 1970s, Dhaka was already a large city of 2.5 million people. However, its growth exploded after 1971, the year in which Bangladesh separated from West Pakistan and became independent. Now the capital of the country, Dhaka has a population of over 10 million in what is one of the most densely settled and poorest urban areas in the world.
