Description

Las Vegas is the fastest-growing city in the United States. In 1950, the population was 24,624; by 2005 it had expanded to over 1 million and could double again by 2015. This growth is putting pressure on water resources. Vast quantities of water, which are not renewable, are being pumped out of the aquifer. Instead of taking measures to reduce water consumption, the authorities are considering how to import water from regions to the north. This is like playing Russian roulette with the environment.
