Monitoring Reflooding of the Mesopotamian Marshlands

Description

Since May 2003, remarkably rapid environmental change has been taking place in the Mesopotamian Marshlands. During the time period starting May 2003 to March 2004, following over a decade of decline, more than 20% of the original marshland area has been reflooded. This highlights the importance of monitoring of the reflooding distribution, extent and the nature of the associated land cover changes taking place.
