Katse Dam (Lesotho)

Description

This dam is part of a large project to divert water from the Maloti mountains in Lesotho to the province of Gauteng in South Africa. For Lesotho, the project is a source of hydroelectric energy and revenues from the sale of water. For South Africa, the water will supply urban and industrial areas in Gauteng. But the project raises environmental and social questions which have not yet been resolved. It is expected that some 50,000 people will be a¤ected by it.
