The Escondida Mine (Chile)
Description
Perched at a height of 300 m in the Atacama desert, the Escondida Mine is the largest
copper mine in the world. In spite of its expansion, the mine is less damaging for
the environment now than when it was first opened thanks to an underground pipeline
along which concentrated copper slurry is transported directly to the port of Coloso.
