Description
In 1989, the Upper Green River basin (western Wyoming) was
a relatively well-preserved sagebrush steppe punctuated by
ribbons of wildlife habitat, stunning vistas, and important
cultural sites. The basin serves as the winter home of large
erds of pronghorn antelope and mule deer.
With its extraordinary reserves, it attracted the oil and gas industry
which built over than 3,000 wells. (black dots in the center of
the 2004 image). This development exceeds the Bureau of Land
Management's plan by more than 300 %.
