Description

In 1986, an experience at Chernobyl (Ukraine) lead to the explosion of
a nuclear reactor and resulted in the worst accident in the history
of the nuclear power industry. Radioactive material spread over
much of Europe, 135’000 people were evacuated, tens of
thousands excess cancer death are expected in the succeeding
decades. A total of 140 000 km2 are contaminated by radioactivity
(> 37 KBq/m2) covering 21% of Belarus territory,
large pan of Ukraine and Russia. Areas within red lines include
radiation levels greater than 1480 KBq per m2 (too high for life).
